6 Month Old Girl!

Finally getting a moment to update Scarlett's blog. It's been a wild and exhausting 3 weeks and I appreciate all the prayers and support you've sent for Evan. He is finally off the ventilator and breathing on his own. Obviously he's very weak from the 10-day induced coma and from fighting pneumonia, sepsis, c-diff, etc...But, he is alive and we are relieved, grateful, and humbled by any small improvement. I went down to LA to be with him for 10 days with a quick trip home in the middle to see Scarlett and Jeremy for Halloween. We are hoping that Evan will be transferred out of ICU sometime in the next week and hopefully home from the hospital by Thanksgiving. Please keep him in your nightly prayers as he has endured so much and we ask for a smooth recovery and a thriving 2011 for him.

While I was gone, my little lady began moving across the floor! We can't call it crawling yet since her hands and feet are not in sync, but she manages to scoot across the entire room! Her #1 target is of course HAZEL. When we say Hazel's name, Scarlett looks around the room for her. Too cute! Scarlett is also eating like a champ, hence the fact that she's gained 2.5 pounds in 6 wks! She'll eat anything I put in front of her (sometimes with some funny faces of disgust, nevertheless, she still eats it!). We saw her pediatrician today for her 6 month  check up-- 72% height &  67 % weight. She's weighing in at a solid 16 lbs 15 oz! :)

I will finally return to work on Mon Nov 15th. I'm ready to meet my new class and see what life as a working mom will be like.  Jeremy and I will be spending Thanksgiving and Christmas in Orange County which I'm thrilled about. Luckily, all of the Kings will be in San Diego for Christmas too since Tay will be 9+ months pregnant by then, so we'll get to see everyone for Christmas Day as well.

Last but not least, last weekend Scarlett FINALLY met her great-grandma Isabel (for whom her middle name is for) at Jeremy's cousin Rebekah's baby shower. It was love at first sight! Scarlett LOVED her G.G. Isabel of course!

Scarlett: 5 months!

Hi all! We have a lot to share since our last blog post! Scarlett is 5 months old and such a fun little lady.  She's scooting across the floor (backwards mind you), reaching for Jeremy and I, jumping and playing in her exersaucer, petting and grabbing Hazel, and putting EVERYTHING in her mouth!

She healed up from her first ear infection (brutal on her parents!) just in time for our vacation.We just returned home from 10 days on the big island of Hawaii with our friends Morgan (Jer's friend since 2nd grade!), Kennon, and their 4 month old Harper. It was WONDERFUL!

Scarlett also quit nursing on me in Hawaii (this little baby has a mind of her own!) so I'm in the process of weaning her off breastmilk. After picking her up from daycare on Wednesday, we were told that she cried hysterically during lunchtime when the other three babies got food and she only was given a bottle. So we started on rice cereal that very day and she and LOVED it!  Also got a chance to puree and freeze some homemade baby food today. We are all set for November when S can start eating veggies and fruits. Yum!

I return to work on November 1st, so I'm wrapping up my final few weeks at home and starting to put Scarlett in daycare a few days a week now as I plan curriculum for school. We have one more little treat as Peg and Jeremy were honored with the Top 1% award through Coldwell Banker, so they are being rewarded with a few nights down at Bernardus in Carmel (our babymoon destination!) at the end of October, and of course Cliffy, Scarlett and I get to tag along and enjoy as well :)

Scarlett 16 weeks

Scarlett 16 weeks!

Scarlett turned 16 wks last Sunday! We feel like we have our bearings and that Scarlett is quite a cute little lady with a big personality :)  Thankfully our sleepless nights are few and far between since she is sleeping around 12 hours on most nights: 7pm- 6:30am! Scarlett's newest and most "interesting" skill is her constant grunting when she wants something. We are hoping this stage passes quickly! ha.

At her 4 month check up today she measured 26 inches (97%) and weighed in at 14.1 lbs (67%).  We also meet with her Orthopedic Surgeon next Friday for the 3 month hip re-check next. We will know whether or not the Pavlik Harness was a success. If not, we move on to a plastic and more restrictive harness.  :(

The countdown has begun-- we leave for Hawaii in less than a month! How much baby gear will one family have to travel with?! That is the question!  Another major milestone-- we are leaving Scarlett over night this weekend as we head to our friend Kate's wedding. Peg and Cliff are brave enough to take on a full 24 hours with S while Jeremy and I go and celebrate in Palo Alto.

Our 108 and 102 degree days were brutal this week. We hibernated inside during the days and luckily had P & C's pool to cool off in in the evenings! Check out our swim time and some other cute pics below.

3 months!

Hi all! Long time no blog! :)
Today Scarlett is 3 months (13 weeks) and she is getting cuter and cuter!

We just returned from a great 5 day weekend in OC for my cousin Alina's wedding- it was a BLAST! Congrats to Alina and Greg! We are off to Santa Barbara for my other cousin Jayme's wedding in two weeks. Looking forward to another few days with the Huefner clan!


Exciting news-- we just booked our vacation to Kona, Hawaii for 10 nights at the end of Sept- beginning of October with our great friends Kennon, Morgan, and their newest little girl, Harper (who is 3 weeks younger than S). It will be my last hurrah since I return to work in mid-October. Cannot wait to relax with the Fleischmanns and the 2 babes!

Scarlett's latest stats were: at her 8 wk appt she weighed in at 12.2 lbs (76%) and 23.75 inches (90%) and she got her first set of vaccines (24 hours of misery for all 3 of us!). We have her 16 week appt in 3 weeks for her next set of shots and weigh in. She has DEFINITELY put on some more lbs!

Last Friday, we had our 6 wk follow-up appt with the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon.  Scarlett's right hip (the "good" one) has improved....unfortunately the left hip (which is 75% dislocated) has not. We are going to continue with the pavlik harness for another 6 weeks and re-sonogram her again mid-September. Then, if the hip has not fully improved, we will take a 2 week break while we are on vacation, and come back to have her fitted in a more restrictive plastic harness for another 3 months.  We are trying to avoid hip surgery! Please keep those prayers coming that these harnesses do their job!

A few other exciting things-- Scarlett finally met her Uncle CoCo (Cody) after he returned last week from 3 months in Europe. She loves her CoCo already. Scarlett and I also made the trip to Tahoe (Garnderville) to visit Allie and her two kiddos a few weeks ago. Needless to say, Liam is in love with Scarlett so the "arranged" marriage will work out perfectly :)

Scarlett is now obsessed with her hands (there aren't many photos of her without them in her mouth! haha.), loves pulling her mommy's hair, and now grabs and reaches for her toys.

Scarlett: 8 weeks

Scarlett is now 8 weeks old! She has had some major milestones in the past 2 weeks. She found her hands and plays with them all the time-- now we are just working on finding her thumb. She also started sleeping in long stretches and even made it all the way through the night last night (10:30pm-6:30am)!

The pink thing you see in the photos is her Pavlik Harness. The appointment with the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon went well 2 weeks ago. But, based on the sonogram, we discovered that BOTH of Scarlett's hips are semi-dislocated. The right hip is 25% and the left 75%. Therefore, she'll be in this harness 23.5 hours a day for 3 months. There are 11 straps, so I was a little overwhelmed when she got fitted, but after 2 weeks we are now experts at this thing!  The goal is to keep her hips in a "froggy" position of 90 degrees so the ligaments and tendons will tighten up around the ball and socket hip joint. There is a 90% success rate, so say some prayers that our 3 months will be the cureall!

On a positive note, we just returned from a nice long stay in Laguna. Scarlett and I made the road trip with Nonna and Hazel 10 days ago (a quite exciting 9 hour drive!). We had plenty of beach bbqs and fun lunches and dinners with all of our favorite OC friends and family. Jeremy joined us last weekend and we even made it down to San Diego to introduce Scarlett to her favorite cousins, Shane and Hanley! It was WONDERFUL having everyone meet our little gal!

6 weeks and Nursery photos

Scarlett went for her 6 week check-up today. She is a healthy lady and is already 11 1/2 pounds and 23 3/4 inches long! She scores in the 92nd and 90th percentile for weight and height. Her pediatrician was pleased with his growing patient :)

Next week we meet with the Chief of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF for our consult. As many of you may already know, Scarlett was born with a dislocated hip (just like her daddy). Although Jeremy had to have surgery and was casted for many months as a baby, we are hoping after her sonogram that they will recommend a brace instead. Keep your fingers crossed and say some prayers! We will keep you posted with the results of our appt next Thursday.

My mom, "Nonna", came up last weekend and spend 3 nights doting over her little granddaughter. We had SUCH a great time with her and she was so helpful! Thanks Mom!

Scarlett's nursery turned out darling! We were able to make it nice and cozy for our little lady. A few finishing touches are still on their way...but check it out so far:
